Jim Fogarty is a landscape designer and gardening media personality. With over twenty internationally recognised design awards including eleven gold medals, Jim continues to raise the profile of Australian garden design. Jim started his media career in 1995 and has experience in television, magazines, newspapers and radio. Media work focuses on topics related to garden design, inspiration, materials & plant selection, and construction of gardens

Attila has co-authored 7 books about succulents and written a further 7 on his own on Australian native plants. He  currently edits a small botanical journal. For over 30 years, Attila’s life has been consumed by the appreciation of succulents and native plants. He is devoted to cultivating these plants and encouraging professionals, collectors and gardeners to embrace them further. He occasionally appears on television and radio.

Rod has published over 30 horticultural texts for TAFE students across Australia.  He makes short films, does gardening talk-back on local ABC radio, leads tours to exotic places (Galápagos, Amazon, Madagascar) and lives at ‘Peach Flat’ (Gippsland) where he and his partner Michele Adler have created a large landscape garden / wetland.  He lectured in horticulture at Burnley College (Melbourne Uni) for 14 years.

Sue wrote for 16 years in Albury’s Border Mail. She is now secretary of the Salvia Association of Australia and produces a regular newsletter. In 2013 Sue presented at the second international Salvia Summit at Huntington, Los Angeles and undertook a salvia hunting trip in the mountains of Mexico with the Guadalajara University. She is recognised as a world authority on salvias and has a mail order nursery in Albury. She also has a better than average knowledge of herbs and perennials.

Gail Thomas is a freelance writer based in Geelong Victoria. She has written two food-related books and many articles for various publications over the years. Her main areas of interest relate to culinary topics, edible gardens, specialist food producers and vignerons as well as other broader horticultural endeavours.



Kathie Thomas


Kathie is an avid gardener living in the Dandenong Ranges. She is also a passionate photographer so combining the two seemed the perfect thing to do. Edna Walling is her inspiration. Kathie has won a small number of photography competitions and has her eye on the coveted IGPOTY award – there have only been a small number of Australians who have won this to date. Kathie and her husband are currently replanting a ¾ acre bush paddock to turn it into a garden and this will be a source for many of her stock images on her site.

Penny is a passionate organic gardener and well-known gardening writer and photographer. She is a regular panellist on 3CR community radio gardening program, talks to groups Australia-wide and has written & illustrated 7 books on edible and useful plants including Asian Herbs and Vegetables, Growing Easy Herbs for Beauty Fragrance and Flavour, Community Gardens (with Pam Vardy) and the updated, expanded version of Pest-Repellent Plants.

Prior experience at BankWest managing a broad range of special communications projects has given Cathy the project management skills required for the clients of Haughty Culture. She has a Diploma in Garden Design. Lorna and Cathy have written garden style and design columns for the Sunday Times, and Habitat in The West Australian.

Sue Torlach

Sue Torlach is a landscape designer specialising in sustainable landscapes, and a contributor to Scoop Magazine, Habitat gardening section and Architect and Builder magazine on landscaping and horticultural topics. Sue recently wrote the ‘Waterwise Garden Design Program’ for the Water Corporation and the Landscape Industries Association of WA and edited several editions of LIAWA’s ‘Shape’ magazine.
